ART CLASSES AT HCDC - 2009

HCDC aimed to provide an ideal evironment and help children to explore, create and develop their own original ideas. Inspiration, materials, guidance and tools are provided for the children to learn how to be creative. Each child will creates original art work which is a reflection of his or her own personal interpretation and idea. But what is really important is what children learned in the "process."

Here, teachers and parents are always respect children's ideas help them to learn to think and solve problems for themselves. Children also feel free to make mistakes and to explore, feel free to invent, create and find new ways to do things.

Participation in the arts is important. Research shows that the benefits of early arts education extend way beyond providing a creative outlet for children. Arts education can help develop:
Imagination
Cognitive skills
Creative abilities
Problem solving
Fine motor skills
Language
Social skills
Sense of time and place
Focusing
Listening
Risk taking
Tolerance
Uniqueness

And of cause....it play a major role in a child's academic and social development.

A JOURNEY INTO JOY AND PEACE, NOV 2008

November ‘08 Charity Art Exhibition @ Dessert’s Bar, Soho KL, Solaris Mont Kiara, KL
Kids reach out to their peers through ART By THO XIN YI of The Star Metro

‘CHILDREN for children’ is the key concept of the Fund-Raising Art Exhibition, ‘A Journey into Joy and Peace’.

The brainchild of Honey Child Development Centre founder, Ms. Honey Khor and Clay Expression founder, Ms. Cindy Koh, the exhibition will be held from Nov 1 to 29 at Dessert’s Bar Studio from 10:00am to 10:00pm at Solaris Mont Kiara in Kuala Lumpur.

Featuring more than 100 pieces of artworks by children in Cambodia as well as students of Honey Child Development and Clay Expression, the exhibition is aimed at raising funds for Colors of Cambodia, the Myanmar Cyclone Disaster Fund and the Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society Building Fund.

Honey Khor was in Cambodia last year when she discovered Colors of Cambodia, a project for underprivileged Cambodian children to teach them the skills of drawing and painting.
“I visited their gallery in Siem Reap and was told that it was founded by artist and entrepreneur Mr.William Gentry. I was impressed and surprised as it’s the first gallery that displays mostly children’s artworks.

“I met up with William Gentry in Singapore and went back to Siem Reap to visit the Cambodian children this year, and started teaching them,” she said. She saw for herself the poor living conditions of the children and she vowed to do something to help them.

“They have no shoes or school bags ", “ they only carried plastic bags. They need to pay for their education, so some can’t afford to attend school,” she said.

The money raised will be used to help them develop their talent further.
“We will buy materials such as paper and oil pastels for them,” Honey Khor said.

She added that the students in her centre were excited at being able to contribute when she briefed them about the exhibition.“This is to teach them to give and share. Their concentration while producing the art pieces was something I had not seen before,” she said.
